The Stelr Program

Stelr offers a complete program for the young musician.

Suzuki Talent Education of the Lubbock Region exists to offer group lessons, performances and other activities to the students of its participating teachers.  These programs, together with private lessons and home practice, provide the total Suzuki learning environment. The program is dedicated to bringing quality talent education in music to children of any age or level of development using the Suzuki method.  Our supportive learning environment is the perfect place for parents and children to develop a creative, cooperative learning partnership.  Our participating teachers are specifically trained to support and train growing talent.  Presently, we offer classes in violin and cello.

The Suzuki Method

The Suzuki approach is based on the belief that, as Dr. Shinichi Suzuki said, "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed.  Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue.  The potential of every child is unlimited."  Special features of the method include significant parental involvement, early beginning, listening, repetition, loving encouragement, incremental repertoire, memorization of literature, and focus on posture and tone before note reading.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” -Shinichi Suzuki
